Credit for First Aid Certification
Credits: 1
Level: 1
Instructor: "Dean Lafountain"

Being the first person on the scene of an accident or injury can be a frightening experience.  If that person is properly trained in simple first aid procedures it can make all the difference for the person who has been injured.  Someone who is properly trained can give reassurance, physical comfort, prevent infection, stop bleeding and, in some cases, save a life.  Certification in First Aid is taught by the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross, although there are other agencies that offer national accreditation. As long as I can sufficiently verify that the first aid course card submitted is from a nationally (in the country for which the certification was granted)  accredited institution, you may receive 1 Grey School credit (Dept. of Healing) simply by submitting evidence of current First Aid certification and answering a few simple questions.

Please note that to request this class, you must already hold a First Aid card.  This class does NOT teach First Aid as doing so on line will not meet the requirements of certification.

Attunement & Certification Requirements (Basic Reiki / Reiki 1st degree)

Upon completion of the class an attunement in Reiki I is an option available through the professor. If the student lives within 50 miles of the professor's home, such an attunement will be given in person. It is the student's obligation to arrange the attunement with the professor to take place at the professor's home or designated location. Given the online nature of the school, a distant attunement in Reiki I is an option available through the professor for those living outside of the 50 mile radius of the professor's home. Acceptance of either attunement is at the discretion of the professor and is not guaranteed. Any denials of a requested attunement/certification will be reviewed by the Dean of the Healing Department of GSW.

The optional attunement is available only upon completion of the following requirements and is not an automatic part of the class. There is no additional credit for this option. However the student will be eligible to take the Reiki Certification class for credit.

Requirements for all attunements are:

1) The student must demonstrate understanding, sincerity, dedication and high ethical standards throughout the class.

2) The student must complete the class with an excellent grade of at least 90 percent or above.

3) The student must request an attunement and explain in a detailed essay a) why they want an attunement and b) what they plan to do with it.

4) To obtain a distant attunement, student must certify that they are located more than 50 miles from the professor’s home (please contact professor to determine location).

Before certification of the attunement is issued the student must complete the requirements above, as well as those below:

To receive certification the student must:

1) Give a Reiki treatment to at least 10 people other than themselves, each treatment to last a minimum of ½ hour.

2) Document each treatment and the results with client feedback, and send this to the professor.

3) Allow at least a month between attunement and certification. During this period the student is encouraged to be in contact with the teacher as needed, at least once a week to report on how many Reiki sessions were completed, and to provide results and client feedback. Contact the teacher immediately if any question or difficulty arises.

The student report should include:

a) did the client appear relaxed during the session? Was the client receptive or resistant? If resistant what did you do about that?
b) Were you, as practitioner, careful to preserve your own energy and only channel Reiki energy during the healing session?
c) How did you feel after the session? Relaxed? Energized? Tired? Other?
 d) Did you ask for feedback from the client and what was it?
 e) Please check back with your client within a week for further feedback. Include this  in your report to the professor.
